Not sure how the zipper is made but it's definitely air tight and can feel the difference when sealed. The zipper is a little tough opening and closing but that's probably due to the nature of it being waterproof. Hope it stays that way after long term use!

Nice pouch with a small opening
This is a nice weatherproof pouch. It has enough slots for storage of small items like pen/pencil, small notebook, a bootable USB key (for emergency), and I have a fire starting kit in there. It is well built, and I really like the materials used for this pouch. The design though, is less than stellar. One thing, and this is a major issue for me, is that the zipper only opens at the top section of the pouch. I wish it opened more so it is easier to put things in and out of this. But I do understand that it is by design that they selected such a short zipper to keep it as weather proof as possible. The larger the zipper, the higher the likelihood of water leaking into the pouch. Aside from that major issue, I do like the pouch, and I use it in my EDC bag. If I need to replace this for some reason or another, I probably will not be buying this one again. I suspect that this will last a long time though. Hope this helps.
